 Although Rhode Island, located in New England, may be the smallest state in the country, it has more than its share of attractions. Cut into by Narragansett Bay, the nickname "Ocean State" seems appropriate, and there are plenty of beaches. Known for its capital, Providence, and Newport, home to the famous mansions, Rhode Island also has several important institutions of higher learning, such as Brown University and RISD, the Rhode Island School of Design.
